Prom 2012

I had the pleasure back in June of last year to create a custom designed prom dress for one lucky girl! It was a lot of fun despite hand gluing all the sequins onto that tulle! Here's how it turned out!

Wow! Somehow I lost track of 2012 all together! soooo I'd better hurry and catch up! Today I'll just post a little something I've been starting to work on for Spring/Summer 2013.

The Importance of Good Photography

It was a fun and tiring day working on this photo shoot with Michael Grills but it was definitely worth it. Because I put a lot of time and effort into the designs I make I decided that I would be cheating myself if I didn't have some professional photos taken to show my work. Like this article on the Importance of Good Product Photography from RGBDIGITAL says "one thing you can never do twice is make a first impression" and I really wanted my designs to look good online because not everyone can come by the shop to see for themselves.
Good photography can make a big difference in whether or not you present your product effectively and whether or not you make a sale!  Everybody now days has a camera and can take photos and post them online but a professional photographer knows how to use the right angles and light to make your product look it's best when it is intangible.

January Through March

January and February were quieter months in the shop but I managed to take on some bigger jobs like an 11 ft valance and drape! Yikes! Looks like we are branching off into drapery now! Pics will follow!

Aside from all the hemming and fixing and stitching I managed to squeeze in a design! Amanda Downey's custom bridesmaid dress was finally finished too! Thanks for the pics Amanda!

My Inspiration Book

Every designer gets their inspiration from somewhere whether it's fabric, some awesome trim or some funky notions. I get a lot of my inspiration from styles I see in magazines and to keep track of what I like I cut and paste the things I see into my inspiration book. Whenever I'm in the mood to design something new I just flip through it and get inspired. As well as the magazine cut outs you can glue in swatches of fabric you love and ribbons and trims and notions too, anything that inspires you!
