Reversible Faux Fur Vest

I don't normally like to work from a commercial pattern but I made an exception in this case because the pattern was already cut out and my client had already had a similar vest made in the past so it was already going to fit! Voila!

Jersey Knit Tops With Large Front Pleat

So I have a regular following of clients who request that I remake garments that they love. Three of my best girls recently brought in a couple of tops they loved that they each wanted to have and I made them up for them In the Shop.
I love these ladies and I love making their fashions for them. Some days I feel so blessed that I have such good people supporting my business. Thanks Nicole, Louise and Madeline!

My First Figure Skating Dress

I've often thought about trying my hand at figure skating dresses and was finally presented with the opportunity to make one this fall! Tiffany and her mom Laurie came in to the shop to ask if I could make Tiffany a custom sized figure skating outfit. Because Tiffany is tall it's difficult for her to buy dresses that fit her through her torso. Finding the fabric to make the top was a bit of a challenge for the ladies but after some searching they found something Tiffany really liked. I was so thrilled that they loved the dress. Here's the finished result.

Fall Line 2011

So I've been working on a fall line and I am really behind I know! Here's a peek of the mess I made on Saturday In the Shop.

The Story Board

This fall I'm into mixing textures in fabrics. The designs are classic with a twist of modernity. I really like tie-neck blouses and cape coats. I'm using a mix of fabrics including faux leather (from the remnant bin) and soft jerseys (also from the remnant bin). The colours are fallish with lots of grey and brown and some red.

Pattern Drafting

Fabric Cutting

It's a little obvious what my colour choices are!

And here is a sneak peek at some completed designs.

Brown faux leather and fabric (unknown) skirt with hand covered buttons.

Circle wraps - this very flattering and very comfortable wrap sweater is a something every woman should have in her wardrobe. It looks fabulous dressed up or down. The fabrics are knits mixed from acrylic to wool and wool/cotton or wool/acrylic blends.

Hellbox Napkins and Winebags

New to the shop is a collection of napkins, winebags and other silk-screened items created by myself and Ky Christensen. Our company is called Hellbox and our items are available In The Shop and online from our Etsy Store Hellbox.
Our napkins and winebags are made from 100% natural unbleached cotton. We set the fibres in the fabric before beginning the process of hand silk-screening with non-toxic water-based dyes that are safe to use around food and eating. They are machine washable and dryable.

Katie's Wedding Dress

Working with Katie Bruynson on her wedding dress is the kind of work designers live for.

Katie wanted something simple but elegant and couldn't find her dress in a store. She also knew she was getting married on the beach and wanted something that would work with a shoreline wedding.

The design has a plunging front halter neckline that crosses low around the back. A slim fitting skirt with a trumpet style hem and small train. This dress reminds me of a design from the glorious glamour days of Hollywood circa. 1920's.

The first two photos are from the first fitting.

Katie's first fitting

Getting the back to sit as low as we could was a bit of a challenge!

The finished dress!

Made from a light weight satin the dress had the right drape and flow.

Thanks Katie! I had a lot of fun working on your dress with you!

Lyndsey's Dress

Made from 100% silk with a silk lining this dress will turn head's for Lyndsey where ever she goes!

Muskoka Chair Cushions

Made for a client in the shop, these cushions were a new experience for me. As I mentioned before it seems I'm branching out into upholstery and lots and lots of cushion making and recovering!! I think these turned out pretty well.

AMANDA'S DRESS
January and February were quieter months in the shop but I managed to take on some bigger jobs like an 11 ft valance and drape! Yikes! Looks like we are branching off into drapery now! Pics will follow!

Aside from all the hemming and fixing and stitching I managed to squeeze in a design! Amanda Downey's custom bridesmaid dress was finally finished too! Thanks for the pics Amanda!
